Roughriders win the 2011 NOMTFA Outdoor Season Championship
You would be hard-pressed to find a more worthy champion in NOMTFA’s 30-year history than the 2011 Roughriders.
Year after year, the NOMTFA title seems to be won by a team other than the first-place finisher. But the Riders won the regular season title by two games, and kept winning when it really mattered.
After a Week 1 loss with many players missing, captain Marc Nantel’s Roughriders never again tasted defeat. They went 9-1 in the regular season and won both of their playoff games, culminating in a convincing 32-12 victory over the upstart Argonauts in the championship game on Nov. 19.
Despite playing without Nantel (broken distal radius) and two other members of the squad, the Riders were full value for the win in the title match. They jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead on long touchdown receptions by Bill Vastis and David Woods, setting the tone early as it became apparent that quarterback Jim Watkins was going to be on target all day.
The Argos twice pulled within eight points, at 14-6 and 20-12, but could get no closer. The Riders scored two late touchdowns to win by a wide margin.
Woods led the scoring parade with two TDs and a convert. Vastis, Ryan Fitzsimmons and Dan Royan also scored TDs, Dan Zingone had a convert and Paul Cronin made a number of big receptions. Fitzsimmons also had a sack and Vastis and Ian Madeiros snagged interceptions.
Steve Rusynyk and Geoff Lubert scored TDs for the Argonauts, who rode a red-hot defence in the playoffs to the championship game after winning just three of 10 regular-season games. Dan Davidson had an interception, Paul Mason had a sack and Kalvin MacLeod threw two TD passes for the Argos.
Following the game, the league executive announced the 2011 award winners:
Offensive Player of the Year: Chris Gassi of the Stampeders
Defensive Player of the Year: Dan Zingone of the Roughriders
Most Improved Player: Steve Abel of the Lions
Bruce Spencer Award for teamwork and good sportsmanship: Rick Capron and Paul Woods
The executive also presented a $10,000 cheque to the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation, the proceeds of fundraising efforts in and around the annual Ocho Bowl.

The North Oakville Men’s Touch Football Association, or NOMTFA (www.nomtfa.ca), is pleased to announce that it will be making its largest-ever donation to the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation: $10,000.
The money was raised through the annual Ocho Bowl, a special day of touch football and fundraising in memory of Peter “Ocho” Singh, a NOMTFA player who died suddenly in 2008 at age 40. Since Peter’s death, the league has honoured his memory every spring with the Ocho Bowl, a day of fun and friendly football competition at the Oakville Soccer Club, followed by a fundraising auction at the Tin Cup Sports Grille in Oakville.
Over the first four years of the Ocho Bowl, NOMTFA members, with the help of generous sponsors, have raised more than $23,000. The fourth annual event this year, held last April, raised a record $10,000 – double the total from 2010.
On Saturday, Nov. 19, the league will present an oversized cheque to Jordan Younger of the Toronto Argonauts and Natasha Borota of the Foundation. This event will follow the championship game for the NOMTFA fall season, which begins at 10 a.m. on the Centre Field at Crusaders Rugby Club.
The Foundation was established by Michael “Pinball” Clemons, the great Canadian Football League player and coach and member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, to encourage academic excellence, character, health, vitality and generosity. The Foundation uses donations from the Ocho Bowl to build schools in under-resourced countries through Free The Children’s Adopt a Village Program.
NOMTFA is a touch football league for men over the age of 30, based in Oakville and drawing players from throughout Halton and the surrounding area. The league plays seven-on-seven football outdoors in the fall at Crusaders Rugby Club, and six-on-six football indoors in the winter at Oakville Soccer Club.
The league was established in 1981 to provide a place for men to play touch football in a spirit of fun, friendship and good sportsmanship. While other touch football leagues require entire teams to be registered, NOMTFA uses a draft and allocation system to establish new teams each season. This promotes fair and equitable competition and allows players to play with and get to know many different teammates.

It will be the mighty Roughriders against the upstart Argonauts for the championship of the NOMTFA fall season next Saturday.
The Roughriders appear unstoppable, rolling into the final on a 10-game winning streak after losing for the only time back in Week 1. But they will take on an Argonauts team that is coming together when it counts, with back-to-back defensive shutouts in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Championship Game
Saturday, 10 a.m.
Roughriders (No. 1, 10-1) vs. Argonauts (No. 5, 5-7)
There’s more on the championship game below, along with information on the season-ending party and the winter indoor league.
On Saturday, the favoured Riders continued their winning ways with a 19-12 win over the Tiger-Cats. And the underdog Argonauts upended the second-place Stampeders 13-2, surrendering only a deliberate safety touch with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
The Cats came into Saturday’s second game riding high after a stunning 41-19 upset win over the Alouettes in Round 1 of the playoffs. Some observers pegged Joe Cardi’s team to go all the way to the title game despite finishing last and being the sixth seed coming into the playoffs.
But the Roughriders were not intimidated and won rather handily, surrendering a late-game TD that made the score closer than the game actually was.
Ryan Fitzsimmons, Bill Vastis and Joe Mulkins each scored a touchdown for the Riders, all on passes from Jim Watkins. Mulkins added a convert, and Vastis, Ian Madeiros and Brett Bruce had interceptions. Madeiros’s pick, on the Rider goal-line late in the first half, was a huge momentum shifter.
Earlier Saturday, the Argonauts put together their fourth consecutive strong defensive showing, completely shutting down the Stampeders. Alex Wysocki’s Stamps came into the game averaging almost 20 points a game over the course of their seven wins and three losses during the regular season, but they could not penetrate the stout Argo in the semifinal.
QB Kalvin MacLeod relied heavily on receivers Steve Rusynyk and Geoff Lubert to control the ball for long stretches of the game. Rusynyk scored both Argo TDs, giving him six in his past four games, and also made an interception to seal the victory.
Dan Davidson added a convert, Tyler Reitsma had two sacks and MacLeod had a pick and several pass knockdowns.
Championship Game Preview
The title match promises to be an interesting battle between two teams led by quarterbacks who can run as well as pass.
Jim Watkins of the Riders finished third in the league with 168 QB points, including 27 TD passes, and also scored three TDs on the ground. He can also hurt you with his foot, having booted a number of rouges this season.
Kalvin MacLeod of the Argos, who split QB duties with Geoff Lubert during the regular season, has much less gaudy stats – 42 QB points and two TDs of his own – but has played flawlessly in two playoff games, directing a ball-control offence and consistently taking what the defence gives him.
The Riders come into the game without their captain, Marc Nantel, who suffered a broken distal radius (part of the wrist) when he took a big spill Saturday after a rare sack of Joe Cardi. See the video evidence here.
Nantel subsequently pointed out to his teammates that in his eight previous trips to a NOMTFA championship game, the only time his team won the title was when he was out with a separated shoulder. So if that is an omen, the Roughriders may emerge victorious next weekend.
On the other hand, the game features five players from last year’s champion Tiger-Cats, and the edge in that statistic goes to the Argos with three (Richard Blaskovic, Geoff Lubert and Paul Woods) to two for the Riders (Jim Watkins and David Woods).
The game also involves a head-to-head generational rivalry, with speedy young David Woods going up against slow old Paul Woods. Continued weekly access to NFL Sunday Ticket at the old man’s house is at stake for the young lad.
The Roughriders swept the season series, winning 7-0 in Week 3 and 33-0 in Week 8.
Note the special start time of 10 a.m., half an hour earlier than usual.
Season Ending Party
As always, the championship game will be followed by a season-ending celebration for all players in the Crusaders clubhouse, with food and drinks paid for by the league. Some special guests will be on hand as the NOMTFA executive presents a cheque for $10,000 to the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation, representing the league’s donation from this year’s Ocho Bowl.
Over the first four years of the Ocho Bowl, NOMTFA members, with the help of generous sponsors, have raised more than $23,000 for the Foundation. It was established by Michael “Pinball” Clemons, the great CFL player and coach, to encourage academic excellence, character, health, vitality and generosity. The Foundation uses donations from the Ocho Bowl to build schools in under-resourced countries through Free The Children’s Adopt a Village Program.
As part of the championship festivities, the executive will also announce the winners of four individual awards: offensive and defensive players of the year, most improved player and the Bruce Spencer Award, which recognizes the outstanding contribution of one man who best exemplifies the principles of teamwork, sportsmanship and even and fair competition.
The award is given in memory of Bruce Spencer, who died in 2002 at the age of 40. Bruce ran Corbett’s Sporting Goods in Oakville and was a NOMTFA stalwart.
Winter Indoor League Update
By popular demand, the NOMTFA executive has arranged to have this winter’s indoor league games played on Thursday nights instead of Mondays. Games are likely to be scheduled as follows each week: one at 9 p.m., two at 10 and one at 11. The season begins Jan. 19, and the league executive will play host to an open house for registrations a week or two before that. More information, as well as registration forms, will be available at the season-ending party next Saturday.

Lower-ranked teams won decisive victories in both first-round playoff games Saturday, setting up 1-vs.-6 and 2-vs.-5 matchups in next week’s NOMTFA semifinals.
The top-ranked Roughriders will play the sixth-place Tiger-Cats, who upended the third-ranked Alouettes 41-19 on Saturday. And the second-place Stampeders will play the No. 5 Argonauts, who shut out the fourth-place Lions 19-0.
The Roughriders-Tiger-Cats games goes at 10:30 next Saturday, while the Stamps-Argos tilt kicks off at 9:00.
In other news, it’s last call for NOMTFA branded apparel. As a reminder, the following items are available:

The Roughriders roll into the playoffs on a nine-game winning streak, the Stamps also get a Round 1 bye and the other four teams square off this Saturday as the NOMTFA summer/fall season playoffs get under way.
As the Roughriders and Stampeders get a week to rest and heal (their perspective) or go stale (everyone else's), the third-place Alouettes will take on the sixth-place Tiger-Cats at 10:30 and the fourth-place Lions play the fifth-place Argonauts at 9:00.
In a statistical oddity, the Lions, Argonauts and Ticats all finished with the same record, 3-7, and each of the three teams split their season series with the other two. The Lions were seeded fourth based on outscoring both the Argos and Ticats in head-to-head contests, while the Argos took fifth for outscoring the Ticats.

The Riders finished the season in exciting fashion, winning the final game on a last-play Hail Mary pass for a touchdown from Jim Watkins to Bill Vastis. It was a great game the whole way, with both Watkins brothers steering their teams through drive after drive. Len Watkins of the Alouettes continually sent passes deep downfield that were essentially impossible to defend, while his brother Jim showed off his running ability several times.
Dan Zingone had two TDs and a convert for the Riders, with Ian Madeiros and Watkins adding the other TDs. Marc Nantel had a convert and a sack.
Larry Rourke scored twice for the Als, with Shaun Danton and Brett Gaskell also scoring TDs. Rourke had a two-point convert and a one-pointer, and Stephan Guidici also had a convert. Gaskell had a pick for the Alouettes.
Tiger-Cats 8 Argonauts 7
Steve Murray scored a touchdown and kicked the game-winning rouge on a last-play slow dribbler as the Ticats edged the Argos. Bill McManus had a convert, and Jeff Chamula and Richard Spencer each picked off a pass.
Dan Davidson scored the Argo TD, with Kalvin MacLeod adding the convert. Davidson, Geoff Lubert and Richard Blaskovic had interceptions, and Tyler Reitsma finished a solid season as rusher with two quarterback sacks and a pass knockdown.
Stamps 32 Lions 7
Chris Gassi scored two TDs for the Stamps, and also had a convert and a pick. Nick DeNobile, Pat Carey and Lou Smeyers added touchdowns, Mike St. Jacques had a convert and a pick, and Smeyers also intercepted a pass. Mike Watson had two sacks.
Mike Soroka scored a touchdown and Dwayne Francis a convert for the Lions. Chris See intercepted a pass.

NOMTFA Newsletter Week 10
Heading into the final week of the NOMTFA season, the first three
seedings have been wrapped up.
The Roughriders clinched top spot last weekend with a hard-fought
14-10 win over the second-place Stampeders. They will get a first-round bye
along with the Stamps, who cannot be caught for second place because they swept
the season series against the third-place Alouettes.
The Als will go into the playoffs as the third seed overall and
top seed in Round 1, and the other three positions will be determined this
weekend. A three-way tie for fourth place or two-way ties for fourth or fifth
are all possible, in which case tie-breaking formulas will be needed to
determine seedings and next week's first-round matchups.

David Woods and Dan Zingone each scored a touchdown for the
Roughrders in an interception-filled game.
Woods also had a one-point convert and Zingone kicked for a rouge.
The game had a bizarre finish. With a
four-point lead on third down deep in their own zone, Roughriders QB Jim
Watkins called a play intended to waste time before conceding a safety. But in
his excitement he decided to bring the ball out of the end zone and was tagged
short of a first down, giving the Stamps a golden opportunity to win the game.
On the ensuing possession, however, Woods picked off an Alex Wysocki pass in
the end zone to end the threat and clinch top spot for the Roughriders.
The Roughriders picked off six Wysocki
passes: two by Bill Vastis and one each by Woods, Marc Nantel (an
over-the-shoulder beauty), Watkins and Brett Bruce.
Pat Carey scored for the Stamps, who
also got a two-point convert from Chris Gassi and a safety from rusher Mike
Watson. Watson had another sack as well, with Gassi and Scott Leckie picking
off Watkins passes.
Alouettes
35 Tiger-Cats 34
Shaun Danton had three touchdowns to lead the Alouettes, with Eric
Lippert adding another. Wayne Flynn had two one-point converts and Danton had a
pick. Other Als statistics were unavailable at press time.
Carleton Grant had two touchdowns and an interception for the
Ticats. Joe Cardi, Dan Bilancia and Richard Fraser also scored TDs. Carmen
Gassi had two converts, with Grant and Ian Ingles adding one each. Cardi had a
pick on defence in addition to four TD passes.
Argonauts

Steve Rusynyk, Kalvin MacLeod and Geoff Lubert scored TDs for the
Argonauts. Dan Davidson had a convert and an interception, and Rusynyk and
Tyler Reitsma each had a sack.
Peter Grzeskowiak scored on a long pass-and-run play for the
Lions, with Matt Ahrens adding the other score. Chris See and Travis Pringle
had interceptions, and Ahrens had a sack.

See you on the field!
The Roughriders continue to roll as NOMTFA heads into Week 8, with the Stampeders hot on their heels.
Before we recap Oct. 1 action, an important reminder that the Annual General Meeting is taking place this Saturday after the 10:30 games in the Crusaders Park clubhouse. All players are invited to hear from the Executive about the financial status of the league and plans for the future, and to have your own voices heard. An agenda is attached.

This Saturday's Games
9 a.m. North Als vs. Stampeders
10:30 a.m. South Ticats vs. Lions
10:30 a.m. North Riders vs. Argonauts
Roughriders 36 -Tiger-Cats 19
Dan Zingone had two touchdowns, an interception and a convert to lead the Roughriders, who could clinch a first-round bye as early as Saturday. Jim Watkins threw five TD passes, scored a TD himself and added three rouges on deep kickoffs as well as an interception.
Dave Woods and Ryan Fitzsimmons also scored touchdowns for the Riders, while Cam Powley and Fitzsimmons had converts and Joe Mulkins had an interception. Paul Cronin split his forehead open in a collision with Woods as both were in hot pursuit of Ticats QB Joe Cardi.
Richard Fraser, Carmen Gassi and Ian Ingles scored for the Cats, with Gassi adding a convert and Ken Horton a sack. Cardi threw three TD passes and three picks.
Alouettes 25 - Lions 20
Shaun Danton, with two, Larry Rourke and Emanuel Ribeiro scored touchdowns for the Alouettes. Danton added a convert and an interception, and Mark Rippin also had a pick. The Lions kept it close all game despite playing with just six players. Chris See threw TD passes to Trent Pringle, Mike Soroka and Mike Stefnitz, and a convert to Pringle. Travis Pringle had an interception.
Stampeders 12 -Argonauts 0
The all-or-nothing Argonauts played their fifth shutout game in a row (two wins, three losses), falling by two scores to a Stampeders squad that was without QB Alex Wysocki, snapper Nick DeNobile and some other key weapons.
Pat Carey filled in ably for Wysocki, throwing TD passes to Chris Gassi and Scott Leckie – the first set up by a Gassi interception deep in Argo territory and the second by a somewhat debatable interference penalty.
Gassi had monster game on defence, grabbing four picks to go along with one by Pat Egan. Mike Watson had three sacks.
Kalvin MacLeod and Tyler Reitsma had sacks for the Argos, with Dan Davidson snagging his league-leading sixth interception.

See you on the field, and at the AGM!
Hall of Fame Celebration - Congratulations
Before we recap last weekend’s NOMTFA action, thanks are in order to Clyde Hencher, Nick DeNobile and the rest of the league executive for the Hall of Fame celebration. The three inductees – Ken Cormier, Jim Holman and Brian Worts – were thrilled to be honoured in such a classy manner for their contributions to NOMTFA, and the presence of the Grey Cup on the patio really added to the festivities.
Video highlights from the proceedings, as well as some up-close on-field action from the Hall of Fame Game between the Roughriders and Alouettes, can be found on the NOMTFA YouTube channel here - http://www.youtube.com/user/NOMTFA?feature=mhee.
Many players took pictures of themselves, teammates and family members with the Cup. If you have pictures to share, send them to info@nomtfa.ca and we’ll try to put a selection on the league website.
Also, a reminder that NOMTFA’s Annual General Meeting is coming up at noon on October 15. If you have a suggestion for the agenda, or want to see a copy of the draft Constitution that will be presented for consideration at the AGM, please send an email to info@nomtfa.ca.
The Roughriders and Stampeders held on to a share of top spot with wins last Saturday, while the Argonauts finally got off the schneid with a shutout win.
This Week’s Games 9:00 --> North --> Argonauts vs. Alouettes
10:30 --> South --> Lions vs. Roughriders
10:30 --> North --> Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats
Roughriders 25 --> Alouettes 14
In a battle of brothers Len and Jim Watkins, Jim’s Roughriders emerged victorious n a hard-fought game, winning the right to pose with the Grey Cup afterwards.
Daniel Royan, Ian Madeiros and Ryan Fitzsimmons (with two) scored TDs for the Riders, with Bill Vastis adding a convert and Brett Bruce making a clutch interception with the game on the line, setting up the clinching TD.
Marc Nantel had two sacks for the Roughriders, with Jim Watkins throwing for four TDs and a convert.
Shaun Danton scored both TDs for the Alouettes, on passes from Len Watkins. Stephan Guidici had two one-point converts and a sack. Brett Gaskell also had a sack and a pick, and Danton intercepted a pass as well.
Argonauts 18 --> Tiger-Cats 0
Despite playing with only seven players and missing starting QB Geoff Lubert, the Argonauts gutted out their first win of the season, and by shutout to boot. Kalvin MacLeod played a very solid game for the Argos, passing for three TDs and picking off two passes.
Dan Davidson also had two interceptions for the Boatmen (giving him five in five games), while Tyler Reitsma had a sack and a TD. Richard Blaskovic and Paul Woods also scored for the Argos, who got offensive and defensive contributions from everyone.
Tony Rominelli and Richard Fraser had picks and Ian Ingles a sack for the Ticats, who also played without their starting QB, Joe Cardi.
Stampeders 13 --> Lions 7
Chris Gassi and Lou Smeyers scored TDs for the Stampeders, who got back in the win column after suffering their first defeat the previous week. Gassi added a convert and Mike Watson had a sack.
Chris See threw a TD pass to Matt Ahrens, who also scored a one-point convert for the Lions. See also intercepted a pass on defence.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Halton touch football league inducts three “oldtimers” into Hall of Fame, this Saturday (Sept. 17) at Crusaders Rugby Park
The Grey Cup will be in attendance!
Sept. 13, 2011
The North Oakville Men’s Touch Football Association, or NOMTFA (www.nomtfa.ca) is pleased to announce its three newest inductees into the NOMTFA Hall of Fame: Ken Cormier and Jim Holman, both of Oakville, and Brian Worts of Uxbridge.
The three long-time league stalwarts will be honoured this Saturday (Sept. 17) at festivities before and after the second annual Hall of Fame Game. The game between two current NOMTFA teams kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on the North Field at Crusaders Rugby Club, 2214 Ninth Line (just south of Dundas Street). After the game, past and current players, family members and other invited guests will move inside the Crusaders clubhouse for induction ceremonies and a barbecue.
Through a special arrangement with the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the Grey Cup will be on hand at the event. Attendees can have their pictures taken with the venerable trophy, which will be awarded for the 99th time later this year to the champions of the Canadian Football League.
All past and present players and officials with NOMTFA are invited to attend and pay tribute to three of the league’s founders, whose vision lives on 30 years after the association was formed.
NOMTFA is based in Oakville but draws players from throughout Halton and the surrounding area. Most of the players reside in Oakville, Burlington and Milton, but some come from as far away as Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo.
Here are brief biographical sketches of the three newest Hall of Famers, all of whom were part of the league in its early years:
Ken Cormier
Ken Cormier worked as a referee for about 13 seasons. He’s a retired teacher who has vivid memories of meeting new and interesting people from a wide range of backgrounds, playing games in all kinds of weather, and suffering a broken nose.
Jim Holman
Jim Holman was a player, referee and league executive member for about 15 years. The IT professional and company owner recalls that being drafted to a different team every season allowed him to get to know many players and forge countless friendships.
Brian Worts
Brian Worts played about 13 years and also served the league as president, social chairman and draft chairman. A chief executive officer, he remembers “the fellowship and the spirit of competition exercised in an atmosphere where you could get hurt only by accident as we all knew we had priorities that were larger. A very satisfying experience tempered only by the muscle pain of the morning after!”
The principles and format established by Cormier, Holman, Worts and many of their early counterparts live on today in NOMTFA, which operates a summer/fall season of seven-on-seven ball at Crusaders Park and an indoor winter season (six-on-six) at the Pine Glen soccer facility.
The league’s Statement of Principles requires that every player must play at least half of every game he attends. Playing both ways is not permitted unless the team has less than a full complement of players.
NOMTFA is an independent, not-for-profit association that relies on player fees and sponsorship revenue to pay for field rentals, jerseys, referees and other operating costs. The minimum player age of 30 has been relaxed on occasion to ensure complete rosters for each team (14 men in the summer/fall season, 12 men in the winter season).
Games in the summer/fall season are played each Saturday at 9 and 10:30 a.m. at Crusaders Park.

NOMTFA Newsletter Week 3
Alex Wysocki threw four touchdown passes and made like William (Refrigerator) Perry in rambling for a TD of his own as the undefeated Stampeders won a first-place NOMTFA showdown last weekend, 31-19 over the Alouettes.
In other games, the Tiger-Cats scored an impressive 34-18 win over the Lions and the Roughriders managed a rare shutout, 7-0 over the Argonauts.
Before we recap last week’s games, two important announcements:
First, there are no games this weekend because of the Labour Day holiday. Games resume Saturday, Sept. 10, at the traditional start times of 9 and 10:30 a.m.
More importantly, Doug Richardson of the Southern Ontario Touch Football Officials Association has advised that, effective immediately, all players who wear any type of mechanical brace with exposed hard plastic or metal will be required to cover the device on the field. Doug adds that the association appreciates everyone’s support to ensure the safety of all players.
September 10 games: 9:00 a.m. North - Lions vs. Argos
9:00 a.m. South - Riders vs. Stamps
10:30 a.m. North - Ticats vs. Als
Stampeders 31 Alouettes 19
Pat Carey scored two touchdowns (his league-leading fourth and fifth of the season) to pace the Stampeders. Chris Gassi, Mike St. Jacques and Alex Wysocki also scored, and Al Hrynyshyn caught a deflected pass for the Stamps’ only one-point convert.
Wysocki threw four TD passes and moved the ball around to all of his receivers. Gassi did a good job containing Lenny Watkins and managed one sack.
Brett Gaskell, Gino Barazzuol and Emanuel Ribeiro scored touchdowns for the Alouettes, all on passes from Watkins. Gaskell also had a one-point convert and Greg Mills had a sack.
Tiger Cats 34 Lions 18
Bill McManus scored two TDs for the Tiger-Cats, with Carmen Gassi, Richard Fraser and Steve Murray adding one each. Ian Ingles had two one-point converts, and Carleton Grant and Gassi added one each. Gassi and Murray also had interceptions. Joe Cardi threw five TD passes and one interception.
Mike Stefnitz scored twice for the Lions and Drew Leblanc added another TD, all on passes from Chris See, who also threw two picks. Mike Soroka had an interception for the Leos.
Roughriders 7 Argonauts 0
Ryan Fitzsimmons scored the TD and Bill Vastis converted for the Roughriders, who played without No. 1 QB Jim Watkins. Joe Mulkins and Brett Bruce picked off passes for the Riders, who have allowed only 38 points in three games, just one more than the frst-place Stamps.
Paul Davidson had three sacks for the Argonauts, who had two touchdowns called back on offside penalties. Dan Davidson and Andrew Salamon had interceptions.
The top two teams after two weeks go head to head this weekend in NOMTFA action.
The Alouettes and Stampeders are sitting atop the standing after the Alouettes blasted the Lions 43-12 and the Stamps beat the Argonauts 20-12 last Saturday. In the other game, Roughriders edged the Tiger-Cats 21-20.
Wayne Flynn’s Als play Pat Egan’s Stamps in the feature matchup this weekend at noon on the North field.
Before we recap last week’s games, a reminder that NOMTFA now has its own YouTube channel. On the channel you can find clips from Weeks 1 and 2, including TD receptions by Peter Grzeskowiak, OJ Gleeson and Angelo Gabriele, a nice catch (albeit out of touch) on an Alouettes convert attempt, a pass breakup in the end zone by the Als and a catch-and-pitch play by the Roughriders.

Ryan Fitzsimmons, Ian Madeiros and David Woods scored for the Roughriders, all on passes from Jim Watkins. Woods added a two-point convert and Watkins kicked a rouge that proved to be the difference in the game.
The game was tied with about six minutes left when Watkins was picked off by Carleton Grant. The Ticats offence could not capitalize on the turnover, and the Riders took over, driving the ball into Tiger-Cat territory. With 15 seconds left on the clock, Watkins punted the ball through the end zone for the game-winning single on the last play.
Ken Horton had two TDs and two interceptions for the Tiger-Cats, and also applied his first-aid skills on teammate Graham Edwards, who suffered what is believed to be a season-ending shoulder separation when he slammed into the hard ground.
Bill McManus had the other TD for the Cats, with Dan Bilancia and Richard Fraser adding one-point converts.
Stampeders 20 Argonauts 12
Pat Carey had two touchdowns for the Stamps, with Chris Gassi adding another and Michael St. Jacques chipping in with two one-point converts. Mike Lambert had an interception and Alex Wysocki threw three TD passes and no interceptions.
Tyler Reitsma, on a long pass-and-run play, and Paul Mason scored touchdowns for the Argos. Reitsma had a sack, Paul Davidson added two sacks and Kalvin MacLeod threw two TD passes and an interception.
Alouettes 43 Lions 12
Wayne Flynn and Shaun Danton had two touchdowns apiece to lead the Alouettes to their second straight win. Larry Rourke, Angelo Gabriele and Emanuel Ribeiro also scored. See Gabriele’s TD here.
Rourke added a one-point convert and an interception, and Mark Rippin also picked off a pass. Len Watkins had a great day at QB for the Als, throwing seven TD passes.
Matt Ahrens and young Nathan Rourke scored for the Lions, who were short-handed and recruited Larry Rourke’s teenaged son as well as longtime NOMTFA stalwart David Fisher to flesh out the roster to seven men.
Nathan Rourke was a great addition to a team of oldtimers who were gasping for air throughout the game. The young lad made a nice adjustment on a long pass from Chris See and took it the rest of way for the first Lions TD.

Subject: NOMTFA Newsletter -- Week 1
Chris See had an impressive return to NOMTFA, Alex Wysocki picked
up where he left off last season and Brett Gaskell showed he can play QB as the
league kicked off the 2011 fall season last Saturday.
The most impressive performance was put on by Wysocki's Stampeders, who rolled to a 33-6 win over the
undermanned Tiger-Cats on a hot field. See's Lions also had a solid win, 18-7
over the Roughriders, while Gaskell led the Alouettes to a narrow 14-12 win over the Argos.

Lions 18 Roughriders 7
The last game of the day marked the return to NOMTFA of Chris See,
who played in the league in the early part of this decade and helped win a
championship in 2002. He led three impressive scoring drives, finishing them
with TD passes to Peter Grzeskowiak, OJ Gleeson and
Duane Francis.
See also picked off three passes for the Lions. Both teams were
short-handed and borrowed players from other teams, with Greg Mills of the Alouettes grabbing two interceptions for the Lions, and Al Hrynyshyn of the Stamps making a pick for the Riders.
Ryan Fitzsimmons scored for the Riders on a pass from Dan Zingone. Marc Nantel had a sack, Zingone intercepted a pass and Hrynyshyn had a convert in a
losing cause.
Stampeders 33
Tiger-Cats 6
Alex Wysocki, last year's runaway leading passer, threw five TD
passes to five different receivers for the Stamps. Pat Carey, Nick DeNobile, Chris Gassi, Mike
Lambert and Lou Smeyers scored TDs, with Carey adding two one-point converts
and Gassi another. Mike Watson had three sacks.
Steve Murray threw a TD pass to Richard Fraser for the Ticats, who were forced to play the entire game with six
men.
Alouettes 14
Argonauts 12
Brent Gaskell, subbing at QB for Len Watkins, moved the ball
smartly and threw TD passes to Wayne Flynn and Shaun Danton as the Alouettes edged the Argos in a close game that went down to
the final play. Larry Rourke's two one-point converts
were the difference in the game. Rourke also had a
pick and Gaskell added two of his own.
Kalvin MacLeod threw touchdown
passes to Bob Davidson and Richard Blaskovic for the
Argos. Newcomer Dan Davidson had two interceptions, and Bryan Luren and Tyler Reitsma had
sacks.

As has been tradition, the money will be donated to the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation (MPCF). MPCF uses these donations to build schools in under resourced countries, thus promoting education; literacy and overall sustainability of entire villages through Free The Children's Adopt a Village Program.
For the 4th year, 4 teams will participate in an elimination touch football match followed by a championship game. The event continues with a luncheon and silent auction hosted by local pub, the Tin Cup in Oakville. Fall 2009 Champions - The Roughriders
Fall 2009 Quarter-Finals: Nov. 7, 2009
The higher-seeded teams advanced, one comfortably and one the hard way, as the NOMTFA playoffs opened with two high-intensity quarter-final games last weekend.
The fourth-seeded Roughriders cruised to a 20-0 victory over the fifth-ranked Lions in the 10:30 game. Earlier, the third-ranked Eskimos had to fight from behind to edge the sixth-seeded Tiger-Cats 21-18.
The semifinal matchups have now been set, with the first-place Alouettes taking on the Roughriders at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and the No. 2-ranked Argonauts playing the Eskimos at 10:30 a.m. Both games will be played on the North field. The Als and Argos had first-round byes last weekend but some of their players stayed in game shape with a friendly on the South field.
Eskimos 21 Tiger-Cats 18
Joe Mulkins was the hero as the Eskimos eked out a hard-fought win over a Ticats team that played far better than its regular-season record would have suggested. Mulkins scored on an interception midway through the fourth quarter, putting the Esks (4-4-2) ahead for the first time in the game, and the Eskimo defence did a good job holding off a determined late charge by the Ticats.
Despite playing without Rob McFarland, the Ticats (1-8-1) had an outstanding game and might well have emerged the victors had it not been for Mulkins’ late heroics.
With John O’Brien zinging bullets between defenders and his receivers catching everything, the Tiger-Cats jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after an impressive, time-consuming drive.
The Esks tied it later in the first quarter and the teams then traded possessions. Late in the first half, the Ticats staged an impressive drive that started around their own 10-yard line.
O’Brien heaved a perfectly thrown bomb to Geoff Lubert, who caught it in stride and headed towards the end zone, only to be run down by a hard-charging Mulkins. O’Brien then coolly tossed another TD pass to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.
The Ticats scored again early in the second half on a deep fly pattern to Tom Mulford as O’Brien again hit his man in full flight. At 18-6, it appeared an upset was in the making.
But the Esks fought back to within four points, then their defence stiffened through a combination of new formations and better on-field communication. With the Ticats around their own 30, O’Brien fired a pass into the middle, only to have Mulkins step in front of it and dash for the end zone with a couple of escorts. The convert, and a single on the ensuing kickoff by Jimmy Watkins, gave the Esks their first lead at 21-18.
The clock ran out before the Ticats could complete a comeback of their own, although a last-play multiple-lateral effort chewed up a lot of yards and might have been successful if the field had been a bit wider.
Watkins scored a touchdown and threw a TD pass to Mulkins and one-point converts to Ken Horton and Mike Lambert for the Eskimos. Mulkins had two picks and Watkins another for the victors.
Aside from O’Brien, Mulford and Lubert, the Ticats also had an outstanding game from Greg Mills, who double-teamed wth Mulford on the pass rush, severely hampering Watkins’ scrambling.
Roughriders 20 Lions 0
A battle between two teams that finished tied in the standings with records of 4-5-1 ended in a surprisingly one-sided win for the Riders.
The first half saw strong defence by both teams, with the Roughriders scoring the only points on a touchdown pass from Len Watkins to Steve Murray and a one-point convert by David Woods. Murray’s TD was scored after he called a post-corner pattern for himself in the huddle.
On the first drive of the second half, a bomb to Woods got the Roughriders to about the 20, and from there they scored on a TD by Mike Stefnitz, who made a number of spectacular catches in the game, including one while lying on the ground.
The Roughriders wrapped up the scoring late in the game when Woods caught passes on three consecutive slant patterns, the last going for a TD.
Along with his highlight-reel receptions, Stefnitz also had a great game on the pass rush, sacking Lions QB Alex Wysocki three times. Murray had an interception for the Riders.
It was a frustrating end to the season for the proud and talented Lions. Tim Coe had a strong game in a losing cause, racking up a couple of sacks, and Drew Todd caught a dozen or so passes.
Statistical Correction
Last week’s newsletter said, correctly, that Peter Charles had six sacks for the Argos in the season finale. Unfortunately, that impressive feat didn’t get passed to statistician Marc Nantel in time to be tabulated in the final statistics. So for the record, Charles finished second in the league with 10 sacks. We apologize for the oversight.
See you on the field.
Fall 2009 Week 10: Oct. 31, 2009
First-round playoff matchups are set, and we salute the individual statistical leaders in the final weekly newsletter of the NOMTFA regular season.
The season came to an exciting but lopsided conclusion last weekend, with three blowouts and one significant change in the standings.
The Eskimos leapt from fifth place to third – and top seed in the first playoff round – thanks to a 31-6 win over the Lions and a 32-0 loss by the Roughriders against the Alouettes. The Esks finished with 10 points on four wins, four losses and two ties, against nine for the Lions and Roughriders (both 4-5-1).
The Als were the dominant team in the regular season, losing just twice in 10 games (8-2-0) and finishing with a comfortable three-point cushion on the second-place Argonauts (6-3-1). The Argos closed out the schedule with a convincing 32-0 win over the Tiger-Cats, who finished sixth with a record of 1-8-1.
The Eskimos will play the Tiger-Cats at 9 a.m. this Saturday, followed by the Lions and Roughriders at 10:30. Both games are on the North field. The Alouettes and Argonauts get first-round byes but will play an exhibition game, without referees, at 9 am. on the South field.
As outlined in a note earlier this week, the league is accepting nominations for awards in the following categories:
Best Offensive Player
Best Defensive Player
Most Improved Player
Rookie of the Year
Bruce Spencer Award (player who best exemplifies the principles of teamwork, sportsmanship and the NOMTFA ideals of even and fair competition)
To submit a nomination in any category, please contact your team captain or any member of the league executive.
Final player statistics are not yet available, so the statistical leaders mentioned below are unofficial. Official stats will be issued as soon as the tabulations are complete.
Eskimos 31 Lions 6
Jim Watkins ran for two touchdowns and threw for three more to lead the Eskimos to a decisive win. Mike St. Jacques, Gerry Moore and Joe Mulkins were on the receiving end of TD passes, and Mulkins also scored a one-point convert.
St. Jacques had two interceptions to end the year with a league-leading 10 in 10 games. Mulkins added one pick and Bryan Luren picked up a sack.
Billy McManus scored for the Lions, on a pass from Alex Wysocki. Tim Coe had a sack.
Alouettes 32 Roughriders 0
Carleton Grant had a huge game for the Als, scoring three touchdowns and a one-point convert. Scott Leckie and Steve Rusynyk also scored for the Als, with Joe Cardi throwing five TD passes. Jamie Laird had two picks, Stephen Sweeney clinched the sack title with two more (for a total of 23), and Lou Smeyers scored a point on a deep kickoff that could not be returned out of the end zone.
Despite the Roughriders being shut out in the finale, QB Len Watkins finished the year with a league-leading 29 TD passes. He also accounted for 17 other single points from one-point converts and rouges, tossed a pair of two-pointers and threw only eight picks. The Roughriders led the league in scoring with an average of 21.1 points a game.
Argonauts 32 Tiger-Cats 0
Sophomore Chris Gassi wrapped up the league scoring championship by racking up three TDs and a one point convert to finish with an unofficial 72 points to 68 for the Als’ Carleton Grant.
Brett Gaskell scored a touchdown, passed for another and had a one-point convert. Ryan Palfrey also scored a TD, Kalvin Macleod had an interception and a sack, Anthony Koves had a sack and Peter Charles had an outstanding end to the season with six sacks.
Fall 2009 Week 9: Oct. 24, 2009
Les Alouettes sont là!
The Alouettes have clinched first place, and one of two first-round byes, as we head into the final week of regular-season play in NOMTFA.
Thanks to a come-from-behind 14-7 win over the plucky Tiger-Cats last weekend, the Als have 14 points (7-2-0) after nine games, for an insurmountable three-point lead over the Argonauts (5-3-1).
The Boatmen are in the driver’s seat for second place and the other first-round bye, with 11 points and a two-point lead over the Lions and Roughriders (both 4-4-1). An Argonaut win or tie this Saturday against the Ticats will give the Double Blue a rest next week while the remaining four teams duke it out in the quarter-finals.
However, if the Argos lose and either or both of the Lions and Roughriders win, a two- or three-way tie will be created and Deep Blue, IBM’s supercomputer, will be called into action to sort out the final standings.
Apart from the Als finishing in top spot, the only other sure things are that the Ticats (1-7-1) will enter the playoffs seeded sixth, and the Eskimos (3-4-2) will be playing in the quarter-finals although they could still finish as high as third.
In next week’s opening-round matchups, the third seed will play the sixth seed while No. 4 squares off against No. 5. The highest-ranked survivor will play the second seed while the lowest-ranked survivor gets to face the Alouettes a week later.
Argonauts 22 Lions 21
In one of the most exciting games of the year, the Argos took an early 7-0 lead, only to fall far behind as the Lions scored 21 consecutive points. In the fourth quarter, the Argos moved to a hurry-up offence, which produced a touchdown and subsequent two-point conversion, both on passes from Allen Elson to Brett Gaskell.
The Argos defence then held the Lions to a two-and-out and got the ball back with only a few minutes remaining. The Boatmen drove down the field and scored on a dramatic long pass from Elson to Chris Gassi to tie the game. Kalvin MacLeod then scrambled into the end zone for the one-point convert with 10 seconds left, completing the comeback.
Gassi had an interception to go along with his touchdown, and MacLeod had two converts and a pick for the Argos.
Tim Coe, Andrew Salamon and Pat Carey scored TDs for the Lions, with Coe and Bill McManus adding one-point converts and Alex Wysocki kicking a rouge. Wysocki threw three TD passes and two interceptions.
Wysocki also contributed to the cause on defence with an interception for the Lions, who were confounded by four other potential picks that were dropped. Angelo Gabriele had a sack for the Leos.
Alouettes 14 Tiger-Cats 7
Stephan Guidici had a touchdown and two interceptions to lead the Als, who trailed 7-6 for much of the game before scoring a late TD. Jamie Laird had the other TD, a two-point convert and two interceptions, and Stephen Sweeney all but clinched the league lead in sacks by adding five more to his total.
Scott Leckie threw for two touchdowns and a convert and had four passes intercepted, as the Als played without both starting QB Joe Cardi and backup Steve Rusynyk.
John O’Brien ran in the touchdown for the Ticats and threw two picks. Defensively, the Cats were led by Greg Mills, with four sacks, and Geoff Lubert with two interceptions. Graham Edwards and Mark Rippin also had picks.
Roughriders 39 Eskimos 6
Steve Murray had an astounding performance for the Roughriders, grabbing four TD passes from Len Watkins and racking up four sacks on defence. David Woods and Mike Stefnitz scored TDs and one-point converts for the Riders, with Warren Villarba adding another convert.
Patrick O’Connor, Richard Blaskovic and Dan Bilancia (with two) had interceptions for the Roughriders. Villarba and Ian Ingles added sacks.
Joe Mulkins scored for the Eskimos on a pass from Mike St. Jacques after backup QB OJ Gleeson was forced out of action with a damaged hamstring. Bryan Luren had two sacks and also knocked down a pair of passes from his rusher position.
Those in favour of erection, please say ‘Aye’
The league has approved and paid for the erection of a new staircase to the North field to replace the decaying and unsafe pathway that has been there until now. Work should be completed in time for this week’s games.
Fall 2009 Week 8: Oct. 17, 2009
With the Alouettes all but home and cooled out in first place, it’s a four-team race for the second first-round bye in NOMTFA.
The Argonauts and Lions are tied for second with nine points, the Eskimos have eight and the Roughriders have seven heading into the second-last week of the regular season. The Tiger-Cats, with three points, are the only team without a shot at a first-round bye.
Last Saturday, the Alouettes solidified their hold on first, and eliminated the Eskimos from any chance of top spot, with an 18-12 victory over the Esks. The Lions thumped the Ticats 27-6 and the Argonauts edged the Roughriders 7-6.
Lions 27 Tiger-Cats 6
The Lions jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and to the win. After stopping the Ticats on their first possession, the Lions marched down the field, with Alex Wysocki hitting Tim Coe for a TD and Billy McManus for a convert.
On the next offensive play, Richard Petko of the Lions picked off a John O’Brien pass and returned it for a touchdown, with Coe adding the convert. The Lions increased the lead to 21-0 at halftime as Drew Todd added a TD and Wysocki converted.
The Lions took the second-half kickoff and marched for another Coe TD, after which Todd took over the QB duties for the rest of the game. Petko had two interceptions for the Lions, with Pat Egan and Drew LeBlanc adding one each. Angelo Gabriele had two sacks.
Wayne Flynn scored the Ticats’ TD. Ryan Lynch had two sacks, while Mike Soroka, with two, and Brett Bruce intercepted passes for the Tiger-Cats.
Alouettes 18 Eskimos 12
Matt Ahrens, Carleton Grant and Jamie Laird scored touchdowns for the Alouettes, who jumped out to an 18-0 lead before the Esks scored two late touchdowns. Stephan Guidici had two interceptions for the Als, Steve Rusynyk added one and Stephen Sweeney added three more sacks to his league-leading total.
OJ Gleeson scored both TDs for the Eskimos, on passes from Jimmy Watkins. Joe Mulkins had two picks, with Mike St. Jacques and Watkins adding one each. Watkins also had a sack.
Argos 7 Roughriders 6
Neither team could muster much offence while both defences played well. Anthony Koves did a good job keeping pressure on Steve Murray, who played quarterback for the Roughriders in place of starter Len Watkins. Koves recorded three sacks for the Argos, who saw the return of Dan Neibert after several weeks on the injury list.
Chris Gassi was mostly responsible for the Argos’ score as he intercepted a pass (one of two picks he had in the game) and then scored on the subsequent possession off a pass from Allen Elson. Brett Gaskell kicked the winning point on a rouge late in the game.
Murray threw a TD pass for the Roughriders. David Woods had two interceptions and Mike Stefnitz added one. Ian Ingles had a sack.
Fall 2009 Week 7: Oct. 03, 2009
First place in NOMTFA is on the line next weekend as the season heads into its final three weeks after the Thanksgiving break.
The first-place Alouettes play the second-place Eskimos next Saturday (Oct. 17). If the Als win, they will move closer to clinching first place and erase any chance of top spot for the Esks, by virtue of a four-point lead and a sweep of the season series between the teams.
Five of six teams are still in contention for a first-round bye. The Tiger-Cats, who are five points out of second with three games to go, cannot make up the stagger even if they run the table because of the points that will be earned by other teams in the weeks to come.
Last weekend, the Alouettes moved into sole possession of first place with a 37-18 thrashing of the Lions. The Argonauts put together their most impressive performance of the season, a 34-14 win over the previously red-hot Eskimos. And the Roughriders got their high-powered offence back in gear with a 32-14 win over the Tiger-Cats.
Alouettes 37 Lions 18
Five players scored touchdowns for the Alouettes, who jumped out to a 25-0 halftime lead as Pat Carey and Drew Todd took over the Lions’ QB reins for the game. Todd led a furious second-half comeback to bring the Lions back within striking range with seven minutes remaning, but the Als reinserted Joe Cardi at QB and he led a march for the game-clinching score with 45 seconds left.
Ian Madeiros scored two touchdowns and Alex Wysocki one for the Lions. Wysocki also had an interception, and Tim Coe, Drew LeBlanc and Angelo Gabriele each recorded a sack.
Roughriders 32 Tiger-Cats 14
David Woods moved into a tie for the overall scoring lead with two touchdowns to lead the Roughriders. Mike Stefnitz also scored on a pass from Len Watkins, who scored twice himself. Ian Ingles and Richard Blaskovic had one-point converts for the Riders. Ingles and Dan Bilancia each had an interception, and Ingles also had a sack.
Greg Mills and Mark Rippins scored for the Ticats, with Rippin adding a sack and Brett Bruce scoring two converts.
Argos 34 Eskimos 14
The Argonauts put together their best game of the season, completely dominating and Eskimo team that was riding high after three straight wins.
Chris Gassi and Allen Elson each scored two touchdowns for the Argos, with Anthony Koves, Kalvin McLeod and Brett Gaskell adding one apiece. Erick Lippert, with two, McLeod and Gaskell added converts. Gaskell and Elson each had a pick, McLeod had three sacks and Peter Charles added another.
Mike Lambert and OJ Gleeson scored touchdowns for the Eskimos on passes from Jim Watkins. Gleeson had a two-point convert, Watkins had two sacks, and Joe Mulkins and Mike St. Jacques intercepted passes.
Fall 2009 Week 6: Sept. 26, 2009
It took six weeks, but we are starting to see some separation in the NOMTFA standings. Three teams (the Eskimos, Alouettes and Lions) appear to be in the best position to compete for the top two spots, with the Roughriders, Argonauts and Tiger-Cats needing strong finishes to get into contention for a first-round bye.
The Eskimos, on the strength of three consecutive wins – during which they averaged 31 points a game on offence – are tied with the Alouettes for first place, each with eight points. The Lions, who are surrendering less than 12 points a game on average, are just a half-game behind, with contests remaining against both of the first-place teams (including a key matchup this Saturday against the Als).
Last weekend, the Eskimos rolled over the Tiger-Cats 38-8, the Alouettes shut out the Argos 20-0 and the Lions doubled up the Roughriders 24-12.
Eskimos 38 Tiger-Cats 8
Joe Mulkins and Mike St. Jacques were the big playmakers for red-hot Esks, who scored six touchdowns for the second times in three weeks. St. Jacques and Mulkins each had two touchdowns and a one-point convert, and St. Jacques added an interception.
OJ Gleeson and Ken Horton scored the other TDs for the Eskimos. Gleeson added two picks and Paul Woods had one. Jim Watkins threw six touchdown passes and was picked off only once.
Lions 24 Roughriders 12
Tim Coe was the offensive star of the week with three touchdowns for the Lions, all on passes from Alex Wysocki. Paul Mason added a TD, and Kevin Dales had three quarterback sacks.
Playing without QB Len Watkins and several other key players, the Roughriders put up a good fight and were in position to tie or take the lead late in the fourth quarter before a drive stalled. The Lions then wrapped it up on Coe’s third TD.
Dan Bilancia threw two TD passes to Chris Jones for the Riders. Ian Ingles had a sack.
Alouettes 20 Argonauts 0
Carleton Grant scored two touchdowns for the Alouettes, both on passes from Joe Cardi. Scott Leckie added a touchdown, a one-point convert and an interception. Stephan Guidici also had a one-point convert, Jamie Laird had a pick and Stephen Sweeney had two sacks.
Fall 2009 Week 5: Sept. 19, 2009
Halfway through the schedule, the race for first place in NOMTFA almost couldn’t be more wide open.
Five of the six teams are within one point of first place, with the Eskimos and Alouettes tied at six points each and the Roughriders, Argonauts and Tiger-Cats just a single point behind. The Tiger-Cats, who have played a number of games without key personnel, bring up the rear but are themselves only three points out of first place.
In other words, the first two seeds, which come with a first-round bye in the playoffs, are completely up for grabs as the second half of the season begins.
The Eskimos moved into a share of first place last Saturday by eking out a 14-13 victory over the Lions. The Roughriders moved up a notch with a decisive 27-6 win over the short-handed Als. And the Argos pounded the Ticats, who were playing without either of their regular QBs, 32-0.
Eskimos 14 Lions 13
The Eskimos fought back from a 6-0 halftime deficit for a hard-earned win over the Lions. The game might not have been as close as the score, as the Eskimos came away without points from three deep drives in the opening half, thanks to two end-zone interceptions and a late possession that ran out of time.
Joe Mulkins and OJ Gleeson scored touchdowns for the Esks, with Mulkins and Mike St. Jacques adding converts. St. Jacques also had an interception, while Bryan Luren added another sack to his total. Jim Watkins had two TD passes, completed two tosses for converts and threw the two picks.
The short-handed Lions got off to a good start. Alex Wysocki picked off Watkins in the end zone, then marched his team down the field for a score early in the second quarter on a pass to Carmen Gassi.
The Eskimos drove deep into Lions territory, only to be thwarted again when Pat Carey intercepted Watkins in the end zone.
Andrew Salamon scored in the second half for the Lions, and Ian Madeiros added a one-point convert. Angelo Gabriele had a sack.
Roughriders 27 Alouettes 6
Mike Stefnitz scored two touchdowns and Lyle Benson and David Woods each had one, all on passes from Len Watkins, as the Roughriders rolled up their third consecutive big offensive display. They had scored 35 points in Week 4, and 34 a week earlier.
Benson, Brad Soltys and Steve Murray had one-point converts. Murray and Pat O’Connor had picks, with Murray, Woods and Stefnitz each contributing a sack.
The Als were missing their two regular quarterbacks (Joe Cardi and Steve Rusynyk) as well as emergency QB Carleton Grant. Scott Leckie drew the short straw and did a commendable job in a losing cause.
The Als’ defence held the Riders to one TD per quarter, with lots of impressive drive-stopping plays mixed in.
Cardi, who arrived late and wearing his civvies, eventually stripped down to his white undershirt and entered the game. He was able to hit Matt Ahrens for a late TD. Louie Smeyers had a pick for the Als, while Stephen Sweeney had a couple of sacks.
Argonauts 32 Tiger-Cats 0
The undermanned Tiger-Cats, playing without either of their regular quarterbacks, were no match for the Argonauts. Mike Soroka filled in admirably at QB for the Argos, but could not put the ball in the end zone.
Kalvin MacLeod spread the ball around for the Argos and scored a couple of TDs himself. Chris Gassi, Anthony Koves and Brett Gaskell also scored for the Argos, with Gassi adding a two-point convert.
MacLeod, with two, Gassi and Mike Watson had interceptions, and Peter Charles had a sack.
Steve Abel and Rick Capron each had interceptions for the Ticats.
Fall 2009 Week 4: Sept. 12, 2009
It was Family Day in NOMTFA last Saturday. Two of the three games featured father-vs.-son matchups, and one of those two also saw a high-scoring renewal of a lifelong sibling rivalry.
The only winless team heading into Week 4, the Eskimos, got their first W in impressive fashion, coming from behind with two late touchdowns for a wild 41-35 victory over the Roughriders in a battle of fraternal QBs.
The Alouettes, meanwhile, kept their grip on first place with a 22-6 win over the Tiger-Cats. And the Lions moved into second place by defeating the Argonauts 22-14.
After four weeks, the standings remain very tight, with just three points separating top from bottom. Three of the six teams are tied for fourth place.
Eskimos 41 Roughriders 35
The South field became “Watkins Glen” for the day as Jim and Len Watkins went toe-to-toe in a classic gunslingers’ duel, with Jim’s Eskimos ultimately prevailing for their first win of the season. The game was an exciting, back-and-forth affair that from the outset seemed destined to go down to the final possession.
The teams traded scores throughout the first half, with the only real difference the Roughriders’ success on converts. A leaping end-zone interception by the Eskimos’ Joe Mulkins on the final play of the half left the score 21-19 for the Riders.
The Eskimos drew first blood in the second half, surging ahead by six, but the Roughriders roared back with two consecutive scores to take a 35-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Then it was the Eskimos’ turn to come back, with two TDs of their own for a 41-35 lead that stood up thanks to a couple of late defensive stands by the Esks.
There were several big plays by both teams, including a monster TD run through the entire Roughriders defence by Jim Watkins. Mulkins and OJ Gleeson scored on long bombs for the Eskimos, and David Woods did the same for the Roughriders.
Jim Watkins rushed for three TDs and passed for three more for the victors. His brother Len threw five TD passes, ran in a one-point convert and booted a single to lead the Roughriders.
In the father-son matchup, David Woods had a touchdown and sack in a losing cause while the guy who taught the young lad everything he knows, Paul Woods, at least managed to drop two potential interceptions.
Lions 22 Argonauts 14
In the day’s other father-son tussle, the old guy also emerged victorious as Carmen Gassi’s Lions edged Chris Gassi’s Argonauts. Both found the end zone along the way, with Carm catching several passes in an early drive that culminated in his touchdown reception.
The Lions opened the scoring on their second possession when Ian Madeiros caught a long TD pass from Alex Wysocki. Pat Carey then picked off Allen Elson’s next pass, setting the Lions up for Carmen Gassi’s score, which left the game 12-0 at the half.
The Lions picked off passes from Elson and Kalvin McLeod in the second half to snuff out Argo drives deep in the Lions end. With the score 24-0 in the fourth quarter, the Argos mounted a late comeback with a long TD reception by Chris Gassi and then a last-minute TD by Erick Lippert (both on McLeod passes) after an interception by Brett Gaskell.
Carey and Richard Petko had the other TDs for the Lions. Angelo Gabriele had three sacks, Paul Mason had a pick and a sack, and Medeiros, Wysocki and Pat Egan each had interceptions.
Alouettes 22 Tiger-Cats 6
Saturday marked the debut of the Ticats’ two-pronged quarterback attack featuring Rob McFarland and Geoff Lubert. The pair put on a clinic in the first half, mixing things up effectively with halfback options, running plays, some nifty deking and a lot of scrambling.
Steve Rusynyk played a strong game at QB for the Alouettes, mixing things up well and using all of his weapons. He threw TD passes to Scott Leckie, Carleton Grant and Ken Busby, and a pair of two-point converts to David Fisher and Leckie. Stephen Sweeney recorded three sacks, giving him a league-leading nine. James Laird, playing his first game in NOMTFA, showed his versatility by playing halfback, receiver, defender and kicker.
Rick Capron had an impressive day as the Tiger-Cats’ “go-to” receiver during a drive late in the game. Geoff Lubert ran the ball in for the Ticats’ only score. Ryan Lynch racked up three sacks in a losing cause.
Fall 2009 Week 3: Aug. 29, 2009
It’s still early, but on the evidence of the first three weeks, NOMTFA’s player-allocation panel seems to have achieved its goal of creating a competitive league with six relatively equal teams.
Every team has suffered just a single loss in the first three games, and only two points separate the first-place Alouettes from the cellar-dwelling Eskimos. The other four teams are all in between, tied for second place.
On Saturday, the Alouettes and Roughriders made the biggest statements: the Als with a convincing 26-13 victory over the Eskimos, and the Roughriders by trouncing the formerly first-place Argonauts 34-13. The other game was a much closer affair, with the Lions edging the Tiger-Cats 14-12.
The Argonauts, Eskimos and Ticats all entered last weekend unbeaten, and all emerged with the sour taste of defeat. The Lions and Roughriders both got “off the schneid,” leaving the twice-tied Eskimos as the only team still seeking a victory.
The league takes a break for the Labour Day weekend, so the next games are on Saturday, Sept. 12. IMPORTANT NOTE: Game times will be issued later.
Roughriders 34 Argonauts 13
David Woods had two touchdowns, the second on a long bomb from Len Watkins late in the game, to lead an impressive aerial attack for the Roughriders. Playing for the first time with more than seven players – in fact, with a full roster of 14 – the Riders scored TDs on every possession but one and managed a punt single on the other.
Jimmy Becker and Warren Villarba also scored on passes from Watkins, who also ran in a score on his own. Lyle Benson, Brad Soltys and Mike Stefnitz scored one-point converts and Watkins booted a punt single.
Patrick O’Connor had two interceptions for the Roughriders. Watkins was not intercepted.
Allen Elson and Kalvin MacLeod scored touchdowns along the ground for the Argonauts. MacLeod scored an extra point, and Elson threw both picks.
Alouettes 26 Eskimos 13
Quarterbacks Joe Cardi and Steve Rusynyk alternated through a methodical first half that saw the Alouettes open up a 19-0 lead. Lou Smeyers and Carleton Grant also played QB for the Als, but Cardi was the most effective with four TD passes.
Grant, Smeyers, Stephan Guidici and Edwin Lazear were on the receiving end of the touchdown tosses. Grant and Smeyers also scored one-point converts.
Steve Sweeney had a monster day as a pass rusher, sacking Eskimos QB Jim Watkins six times. Carleton Grant had one interception.
The Eskimos lost despite picking off six Alouette passes, including three early in the game that they failed to convert into points. Bob Davidson and Paul Woods scored touchdowns in the second half on passes from Watkins. Mike Lambert added a one-point convert on a sensational one-handed grab.
Mike St. Jacques and Watkins each picked off two passes, with Lambert and Ken Horton adding one each. Gerry Moore, Woods and Horton each had a sack.
Lions 14 Tiger-Cats 12
The Tiger-Cats took a 12-1 lead into halftime, but the Lions surged back in the second half with tough defence for the victory. Alex Wysocki played a key role on both sides of the ball, picking off two John O’Brien passes and completing two TD passes to Pat Carey.
Drew LeBlanc added a one-point convert and a sack for the Lions. Paul Mason had an interception and a sack, and Wysocki kicked a single point in addition to his two picks and two TD passes.
Brett Bruce had a touchdown and two interceptions to lead the Ticats. Rob McFarland scored a TD on a pass from O’Brien and threw a touchdown pass to Bruce. Ryan Lynch had a sack and Mark Rippin an interception for the Tiger-Cats.
Lost and Found
A football was left on the North field on Saturday. If you lost a ball and can properly describe it (“walnut-sized” does not count), please contact me and I will pass the message on to the person who found it.
Fall 2009 Week 2: Aug. 22, 2009
Three of six teams are still undefeated after two weeks of the NOMTFA fall season, and the trend of close, exciting games appears to be taking root.
The Argonauts and Tiger-Cats have both had a win and a tie to start the season, and the Eskimos have accomplished the exceedingly rare feat of back-to-back ties. Every team is within a single win of first place, and four of the six teams are just about even in points for and against.
On Saturday, the Alouettes nipped the Lions 8-7, the Ticats edged the Roughriders 18-13 and the Eskimos and Argos played to a 12-12 tie.
Alouettes 8 Lions 7
Scott Leckie scored the only touchdown for the Alouettes, and Joe Cardi surprised everyone (including his own teammates) by punting for a rouge on second down late in the game as the Als rebounded from an opening-game loss to squeak past the Lions. Matt Ahrens had a one-point convert and David Fisher two sacks for the Als. Steve Rusynyk threw a TD pass and had one toss intercepted.
Drew Todd scored for the Lions on a pass from Alex Wysocki, who added the convert. Wysocki, the Lions’ first-string QB, played receiver most of the game to rest an ailing wing, but his return to the pivot spot produced the Lions’ only scoring play.
Kevin Dales had two sacks and Carmen Gassi picked off a pass for the Lions.
Tiger-Cats 18 Roughriders 13
Brett Bruce, Tom Mulford and newly elected captain Mike Soroka scored touchdowns for the Ticats, all on passes from John O’Brien. Mulford, who leads the league in scoring (24 points) and interceptions (three) also moved within one of the lead in sacks by nailing Roughriders QB Len Watkins four times. Geoff Lubert and Mark Rippin each picked off a pass for the Tiger-Cats.
The game might have turned out differently but for a penalty call. The Roughriders scored an apparent TD on a pass from Watkins to Jim Becker, but the play was called back on an offensive interference call against another receiver. The Roughriders failed to get into the end zone on that possession and the Lions scored shortly afterwards.
David Woods and Richard Blaskovic scored touchdowns for the Riders on passes from Watkins. Brad Soltys added a one-point convert, and Warren Vilarba had two picks.
Argonauts 12 Eskimos 12
With starter Allen Elson absent in the early going because of family commitments, Brett Gaskell was pressed into service at QB for the Argonauts, and performed most admirably. Gaskell threw two touchdown passes, to Chris Gassi (on a beautifully executed corner-post pattern) and Anthony Koves.
Captain Mike St. Jacques had a touchdown (on a rare 100-yard kickoff return) and also intercepted a pass for the Eskimos. Bryan Luren also scored a TD and had three sacks to hold the league lead with five so far this season. OJ Gleeson, playing again in place of starting QB Jim Watkins, threw a TD pass.
It was like two separate games, with all of the scoring in the first half. Light but steady showers through the second half left both teams unable to muster much offence. Some of this might be attributable to the use of composite balls, which are very grippy when dry . . . and very slippery when wet.
Lost and Found
Did anyone pick up an extra football on the North field after Week 1 games? Bryan Luren of the Eskimos left his ball on the field. It’s an NFL composite ball with the initials BCL written in black Sharpie. If you picked this up, please drop an email to me or pass the ball on directly to Bryan.
Fall 2009 Week 1: Aug. 15, 2009
The NOMTFA 2009 outdoor season got off to a scorching – and surprising – start last weekend. Tie games have always been rare in NOMTFA, but last week two of the three games wound up as sister-kissers.
As a result, for what must surely be the first time in the 25-plus years of the league, a single team has sole possession of first place after Week 1. The Argonauts, by virtue of their convincing 38-12 win over the Alouettes, have a leg up on their five rivals.
In other games on a blistering hot Saturday, the Ticats and Eskimos played to a 20-20 tie, while the Roughriders and Lions sawed off at 13-13.
Argonauts 38 Alouettes 12
Quarterback Allen Elson had an excellent first outing for the Argos. He was masterful at spreading the ball around, throwing touchdown passes to four different players and being picked off only once.
Brett Gaskell had the hat trick on offence for the Argonauts – a touchdown, a two-point convert and a one-point convert. At one point Gaskell caught six successive passes across the middle of the field, culminating in a touchdown reception.
Chris Gassi had a TD and a one-point convert while Anthony Koves had a TD as well as a sack for a safety. Kalvin McLeod and Dan Neibert each had a TD and an interception, Erick Lippert had a two-point convert and Ryan Palfrey added a pick for the Argos. Neibert’s TD came on an interception return that broke the game open in the second half.
Carleton Grant scored both touchdowns for the undermanned Alouettes, who had just eight men compared with 13 for the Argos. Steve Rusynyk, filling in at QB for the injured Joe Cardi, threw two TD passes to Grant, tossed four interceptions and snagged one pick of his own.
Eskimos 20 Ticats 20
The teams traded leads in an exciting opener on the North field. The Eskimos jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but the Tiger-Cats tied it with two touchdowns late in the first half.
Early in the second half, the Ticats went ahead on an eight-yard scoring drive. This came about after the Eskimos had a successful goal-line stand, only to turn the ball over on an interception by Tom Mulford. The Esks later tied the game but failed to make what would have been the go-ahead convert.
Mulford had a very impressive opener for the Tiger-Cats, scoring all three of his team’s touchdowns (on passes from Rob McFarland) and picking off three passes. McFarland had an efficient game, tossing only two picks.
Gerald Moore and Rowan Morris scored for the Esks on passes from OJ Gleeson, who romped in himself for the tying score in the fourth quarter. Gleeson threw three interceptions, while Morris and Mike St. Jacques picked off passes for the Eskimos. Bryan Luren had two sacks and Moore added another.
Roughriders 13 Lions 13
Another exciting game went right down to the wire. After surrendering a 13-6 lead, the Roughriders marched deep into Lions territory late in the game. Conditions were ripe for QB Len Watkins – a superb punter – to hoof one into the end zone for the winning rouge. But the hot, humid air held the ball up and the kick was fielded in the end zone and booted out (and out of bounds) by the Lions to preserve the tie.
Steve Murray and Dan Bilancia starred on both offence and defence for the Roughriders. Each scored a TD, Murray intercepted three passes and Bilancia also had a pick. David Woods scored a one-point convert and broke up a number of dangerous passes by Lions QB Alex Wysocki.
Andrew Salamon and Drew LeBlanc scored for Lions on passes from Wysocki. Tim Coe had a one-point convert and a sack.

Thank you - Our First Annual “OCHO Bowl” was a great success
David Fisher's Perspective - "We did it for Pete":
When we gathered, we played... we remembered, we prayed...
The foundation of Peter’s annual OCHO Bowl, was then laid.
The games were contested, our gridiron skills were all tested,
Three of the teams were, by one team, then bested.
We opened wide up our wallets in Peter Singh's name.
Knowing NOMTFA, forever, will ne’re be the same.
We hoisted up trophies, drank glasses of beer.
We laughed and we cried knowing OCHO's "spirit" was near.
We met Damon and Roger, had them sign things and pose.
We took pictures to recall, we shared high thoughts and lows.
Every "body" who came, left the place with a prize.
Regardless of age, sex, religion or size.
But it’s friendship that’s the “gifting” – true camaraderie that's rare.
And we’ve oft seen that NOMFTA men have oodles to spare.
We are the active - the enlightened. We compete.
And on this fine day we all battled for Pete.

The First Annual “OCHO Bowl” and
Charity Fundraiser
Saturday, April 5, 2008
As Marc Nantel mentioned in his regular NOMTFA newsletter from last week,
we are finalizing the details and organizing an intimate set of events to honour
the memory of Peter Singh, one of our NOMTFA brethren who passed away suddenly
in December at the start of our Winter 2008 Season.
THE VENUE
We will be preparing a bit of a celebratory gathering, memorial and charity
fundraiser at Arnold's Funland Entertainment at 485 Morden Rd. in Oakville,
ON. This event is open to all who knew Peter and would like to gather with
the NOMTFA members to reflect, share and remember his affect upon our lives.
We ask that you consider buying at least one ticket for $10 and/or, to qualify
for more door prizes, 3 tickets for $20. But, and as a personal note from me,
for those who are not able to help out on the fundraising side due to your
financial situation, just let me know ahead of time by responding to this email.
I believe that your attendance in the memorial aspect of this is much more
important than the fundraising of money.
The bar will be open for us at 11:30 am on April 5, 2008 and will have some
pool tables set aside for a tournament, a 50/50 draw, a Silent Auction, an
area designated for a series of charity poker games and a bunch of door prizes,
but more on that later.
With that said, let’s talk about the football. Earlier in the day
on April 5, we will be hosting a set of indoor football games with four
randomly selected teams. Only current NOMTFA members from our Winter 2008
Season and
any players who joined us on the fields for the Fall 2007 season are able
to
play in this event because of insurance coverage and regulations. Each
team will have 12 players and the games will be 40 minutes long. Teams will
be
selected randomly at the event.
We, therefore, will have 48 players able to actively participate in the
games and the rest of us, will be cheering them on and supporting this
effort through
participation in the other events in Peter’s memory also scheduled
for that day.
THE FOOTBALL
For the football games, we still have about 10 open player spots for those
who wish to play. The $25 cost to play in this tournament, which also covers
the attendance later in the day at Arnold’s, is due in to Drew Todd
by Thursday April 3, 2008. If you wish to play, please contact Drew as
soon as
possible as this is first come, first served. Drew can be reached via email
atodd74@sympatico.ca or at his home number 905 864 6919 or cell at 416
908 9025.
As Marc identified, the games will be played on the fields at the Oakville
Sports Domes following the Winter 2008 Wildcard game played by the teams who
finished fourth and fifth place in the regular 2008 Winter Season.
09:00 - 09:40 Game 1: Team 1 vs. Team 2
09:40 - 10:20 Game 2: Team 3 vs. Team 4
10:20 - 11:00 Game 3: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2
THE CHARITY: Charity Fundraiser - in Peter
Singh’s
Memory
Marc Nantel mentioned that we will be raising some money during this event
in Peter’s memory for a charitable cause. Marc also mentioned the wish
of the family during Peter’s funeral services to support the Hospital
for Sick Children as a worthy recipient of Peter’s
memorial contributions. We sincerely encourage all who read this to consider
Sick Kids in your own charitable elections or directly in Peter’s name
for your annual and tax deductible charitable contributions.
But, upon considerable reflection by the NOMTFA Executive, the Michael "Pinball" Clemons
Foundation has been chosen as the most appropriate recipient of any funds we
raise through this series of events that we are calling the “OCHO Bowl”.
You may wish to review the website and consider, as
we did, the substantial contributions to local health, human resources, education
and character building programs that the Michael "Pinball" Clemons
Foundation supports. Our NOMTFA vision on this is that the “OCHO Bowl” will
become an annual event, named in honour of Peter Singh, but held in memory
of, not only Peter, but all of our lost NOMTFA brethren.

Super Bowl XLII Party
Crusaders Rugby Club (CRC) executive has invited all NOMTFA players to join their rugby club members for a Super Bowl XLII party. The CRC has been more than fair to NOMTFA over the years in charging us a 'bargain basement' rental fee for the use of their fields. Remember, the CRC is a private club; we should take advantage of this special invitation and make every effort to support this initiative.
We have been given the following details "Doors will open around 3:00. Fee will be $10.00 and will include the munchies appropriate to such an event. There will be some sort of outside sporting activity involving a ball, a field and scoring prior to the main event at 6:00 p.m.". To learn more at www.oakvillecrusaders.com.

NEW! Winter 2008 Teams Announced
The new teams for the '08 Winter Season have been released on NOMTFA.ca. Click here to find out which side of the battlefield you'll line up on. Games begin December 8, 2007 at 8am with the Alouettes facing the Ti-Cats. This game will be followed immediately at 9am by the Stampeders versus Argos. Note: Blue Bombers have the first bye week of the season on the 8th.
The championship game between the Alouettes and Eskimos will be played this Saturday at a special time: 10 o'clock. Everyone is invited to attend the game and cheer, boo, heckle, complain about the refereeing, etc... The early start time is to facilitate the post-season wrap-up party, which takes place at Boston Pizza at the corner of Upper Middle Road East & Winston Churchill Blvd. in Oakville. The precise address is 2011 Winston Park Drive.
The restaurant has been reserved for our use from 11:30 to 2:30. Food and beer will be served starting at 11:45am. Awards will be handed out to the playoff champs, regular-season division champs and individual leaders. Everyone who played in the league this season is urged to attend and share in the festivities.
The league executive has asked that this message be conveyed: In previous years, your NOMTFA executive has had to deal with isolated complaints of objectionable player behaviour that arose both during and after the post-season party. Although the league executive encourages all NOMTFA players to attend and openly celebrate at this event, it also reminds every player that they are representatives of NOMTFA. Accordingly we ask you to conduct yourselves, both during and after the awards celebration, in a responsible and respectful manner so as not to offend others. Please keep this in mind as you enjoy yourself this Saturday at Boston Pizza.
Cheers, and see you on the field or at the party.

Winter 2008 Season Announced!
Here is what's happening with the winter indoor season this year. Oakville Sports Centre has sold the domes and purchased a larger piece of land near Winston Churchill Blvd., south of the QEW. Their expanded new facility will be ready for the 2008-09 winter season, but they have to vacate the current premises by next March 31.
For this year only, the NOMTFA winter season will run from Dec. 9 to March 29. Unfortunately, the dome has only two hours per week available for NOMTFA, 8 and 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Therefore, for this year only, NOMTFA will be reduced to a four-team winter league, with Ron Czech, Cor Doret, Bob Arbothnot and one more individual as the primary quarterbacks. Click here to print off the registration forms in PDF or DOC format. The registration/waiver/fee submission deadline is Nov. 3.
See you there,

David Fisher, your outgoing web-guy here. On Feb 3, 1990, I enlisted the help of about 125 friends, family and strangers to keep a secret and
help me to propose to my wife, Margie Grier, in a public display very much like what we orchestrated on the Dome
fields on Saturday Feb 3, 2007.
Well, I couldn't have managed to "repeat this feat" without
the men of NOMTFA, so thank you all very much. It was a very special moment and I am in your debt.
... and for those who couldn't hear, Margie did say, "YES", for a second time. I'll
invite you all to the ceremony, next year some time! :-)
Thanks guys --- love David!!! (the group picture is below - just click on it to "blow-it-up" in a new window!)
Winter 2007 Kicks off January 6th, 2007
So now we are in to 2007 and our Winter season has begun. See you all on the fields at the Oakville Sports Domes every Saturday morning. Please remember to support our sponsors and especially patronize Philthy McNasty's as they have gone out of their way to get us a good deal for both the league, with a 15% tally of our purchases towards our season ending celebration, and our players in general with a 20% discount on food. Cheers - David
The "Plugged.COM" Stampeders win the 2006 playoff contest. For the rest of us, the NOMTFA Winter 2007 Registration is now open. We will be playing on Saturday mornings at 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00, from 6 January to 21 April 2007, at the Oakville Sports Domes (on North Service Road, between Third Line and Fourth Line, where we’ve been playing for the past four winters). There will be 12 regular-season games followed by three rounds of playoffs (just like the current Fall 2006 season). It’ll be one-hour games, 6-on-6, and we’re expecting 6 teams of 12 players, with the registrations coming from individuals who will be drafted, as per usual NOMTFA principles. We have posted the new registration form here on this website.
We have our own NOMTFA BLOG now. Go to http://www.nomtfa.ca/BLOG/ and comment, complain or read what evil lurks in the hearts of the other NOMTFA men.
Captains: Please send me your team's stats after every game by email.
